Ultimate Social Sciences Resources

Ultimate Resources for Social Sciences

Here are some resources regarding the several disciplines of study that fall beneath the umbrella term “social sciences,” and each one represents some aspect of society.  This will help guide you with many links that pertain to different social science disciplines.  Take a look at our other resources on sociology to help further your research and studies in the field.

Just as many “natural sciences” overlap with one another, so too do the social sciences.  Social sciences arose from the 1700s’ concept of positivism, which focused on positive experience rather than negative. Eventually, other conceptual branches began to develop. Social research, involving surveys, led to the study of social facts. Max Weber introduced the idea of the existence of social phenomena.  Studies of economics led some to claim that particular discipline as a “hard science.” Gradually, the idea of social values began to take on significance. Boundaries have become blurred between the natural and social sciences, as scientific inquiry has demanded observing facets of both.

Included with this site are a wide variety of links to useful resources in each of the main social science disciplines. The websites under each section represent institutions, organizations, universities, libraries and research groups from around the globe. Many sites are informative and educational; others are more specialized and intended for membership or collaboration from current research scientists within those fields. A number of links are for international and non-profit organizations with goals of promoting a better, safer, more peaceful world. The social science divisions used on this resource are listed here.
